Whisper Towers

Towers for Whisper 100, Whisper 200 and Whisper 500 Small Wind Turbines

Southwest Windpower offers tower kits that make installing your Whisper 100 or Whisper 200 easy and safe. Our kits don’t require welding, machining, concrete or any climbing by you. You just need to obtain pipe material from your local hardware store. Anchors are sold separately.

Installing the Whisper 500 tower is NOT recommended for anyone without substantial experience. Installing Whisper 500 towers requires excavation and concrete work, and you may need a crane to lift the wind turbine into place.

The tower installation video below can help you decide whether to install your Whisper 100 or 200 yourself, or hire an experienced professional through your dealer.

All of Southwest Windpower’s guyed tower kits include everything you need except:

1) Pipe material
2) Anchors
3) Power wires

To keep your costs low and ensure you purchase the correct materials for your specific site, pipe materials and power wires should be purchased locally. When selecting the materials for the construction of your tower, please consider the following:

Pipe material: For most conditions, we recommend a Schedule 40 pipe material. This offers a wall thickness of 0.2 inches. (5 mm), which is strong enough to resist most wind conditions. If you are using fence pipe material, make sure you ask for SS40.

Anchors: The anchors are by far the most difficult part of installing a tower. Once you have them in the ground, a tower installation gets quite easy. You should always consider soil type prior to installing your tower to ensure you choose the right anchor type. Whisper owner’s manuals have recommendations based on soil type.

Power Wires: Because the size of your turbine and the distance from the turbine to your batteries/inverter may vary, it is impossible to know the proper wire size and length. Once you are certain of the distance from the turbine to the battery, refer to your owner’s manual for the proper wire size. Also, make sure you select the right type of wire for your specific environmental conditions.

VERY IMPORTANT: Prior to tower installation, read the entire owner’s manual thoroughly. Also make sure you understand the specific environmental conditions at your site before purchasing materials. We offer free downloadable owner’s manuals you can review prior to purchase.
